Banded Onyx Pendant (The Protection Stone)
Description: Please note that Onyx comes in numerous colors (not just black) and has been popular throughout history. Made of stone sourced from Brazil, this unassuming pendant is a subtle look with interesting banding that pops on the silverish cream background. The polish is a satin polish and the fitting is a sterling silver post bail. The combined look is sophisticated. It will stand out and be noticed on dark clothing. Approximate Size: The top is 1/4” wide and the widest point is 3/4”. Height is 1&3/4”, not including the fitting. Thickness is 1/4”.
Care: This is a pretty hard stone (6.5-7 on the Mohs scale) and can be brittle. It will have fairly good scratch resistance but may show a tendency to crack and spall out under a sharp blow. I would recommend you not clean any pendant over a hard surface. A drop to a hard surface could be disastrous. Remember I highly polish my pendants, so they will be slippery to handle. Due to its hardness and polish this stone can be submerged in water, but I wouldn’t for an extended period of time. I would still avoid using ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals. A damp cloth followed by air drying followed by using a polishing cloth is my recommendation for cleaning.
